Always Willing to Help

Dr. Arthur Lemley ('64)

The children of the late Dr. Arthur Lemley have chosen to honor their father’s memory by establishing a scholarship in his name. “Dad was the most kind and accepting of everyone,” explained his daughter Ann. “We grew up being taught to never look down on anybody and always accept people for who they are. Not to judge. The overall kindness in his heart and to the community and to us, it shows he was just a really good person.” Lemley moved to Cherokee in 1966 and joined the veterinary practice now known as Valley Veterinary Center. “Doc” remained there for 37 years. Upon his retirement in 2001, Lemley and his wife Mary returned to his family’s farm in Plano where he farmed and enjoyed making improvements to the land and home. He was awarded Veterinarian of the Year in 2006 by the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association and in 2020 he received the Iowa Heritage Farm Award. He passed away in 2021.
