Not Horsing Around

Since graduating in 2007 Dr. Michelle Dockter Bessire has made quite a splash in her career. A veterinarian at the Brock Veterinary Clinic in Lamesa, Texas, Bessire recently was certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners specializing in equine practice. That’s on top of her 2015 award as the Equine Practitioner of the Year from the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. “I am beyond humbled by the award and Diplomate status I have received,” she says. Dr. Bo Brock, owner of Brock Veterinary Clinic, had nothing but praise for his colleague. “When you’ve seen that many horses a year for a few years, you get good at it,” he said in 2015. “And she’s taken it a step further; she’s become really, really good at it.” Bessire and her associates see about 11,000 horses a year, consisting of a varied array of racehorses, rodeo horses, polo horses and ranch horses.
