Post-Doctoral Students

Viridiana Laredo-Tiscareño, received a travel award from the American Committee on Arthropod-Borne and Zoonotic Viruses to present a poster at the 2021 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Viridiana’s poster is “Detection of antibodies to Lokern, Main Drain, St. Louis encephalitis and West Nile viruses in vertebrate animals in Chihuahua, Guerrero and Michoacán, Mexico”.

Daniel Nunez-Avellaneda, received an ASTMH Presidents’ Challenge Travel Fellowship Award to present a poster at the 2021 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Daniel’s poster is “Co-circulation of chikungunya virus, all four dengue viruses and Zika virus in Guerrero, Mexico, 2019 and evidence of gross under-reporting of arboviral diseases in the region”.

Both Viridiana and Daniel postdocs in Dr. Brad Blitvich’s lab.

  • Selected by the American Society Microbiology as a “Young Ambassador” to Iowa. He joins a network of over 200 ambassadors around the world who are advancing the microbial sciences in local community. Major professors are Drs. Paul Plummer and Qijing Zhang.
