The Poultry Veterinary Extension program is an outreach program of the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine within the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. Our purpose is to assist practicing veterinarians, extension specialists, and poultry producers in the state of Iowa and across the world. We work collaboratively with faculty in Food Supply Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and the Iowa Poultry Association. Our mission is to provide current and scientifically accurate information to our poultry producers and practitioners. Some of the activities in order to fulfill our mission include:
- Supporting practicing veterinarians with field investigations
- Delivering ISU research to poultry producers and practitioners
- Organizing the annual Iowa Egg Industry Symposium
- Providing continuing educational programs for poultry producers and veterinarians
- Assisting veterinarians and extension agents with local producer meetings
- Develop field based research trials to assist poultry veterinarians in making better animal health and production decisions
- Working with allied organizations such as the Iowa Poultry Association, Iowa Egg Council and Iowa Turkey Federation
