Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory Job Openings

 

The Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is a comprehensive diagnostic service, teaching, and discovery laboratory focused on improving and protecting animal health, public health, and the food supply. We work with practicing veterinarians in the field who send in their samples to be tested in one of our laboratories. Our services include necropsy, histopathology, serology, bacteriology, virology, toxicology, parasitology, and molecular diagnostics. Our goal is to increase the quality and value of diagnostic medicine and the standard of practice in food-animal medicine.

Sample Receiving/Sample Processing

  • Lab Tech II: 

Receive, triage and open packages of biological samples - tissues, blood, serum, oral fluids, feces, urine, environmental, etc. – submitted for testing and disease diagnosis. Process specimens prior to transfer to testing labs. Distributes incoming samples, specimens and supplies into the lab. Responds to, or may direct the response to superiors, telephone inquiries regarding samples or laboratory specimens. Cleans, maintains and supplies a laboratory area. Investigates and resolves questions that may arise when working in the laboratory. Performs, or may direct performance of, data entry, labeling and processing of laboratory specimens.

  • Clerk III: 

Enter, examine and evaluate ISU VDL and external laboratory submission forms for case-based information to be entered into our Laboratory Information Management System. Investigate irregularities in client submissions and create Corrective Action/Preventative Action (CA/PA) for improvement opportunities. Communicate case-related issues and testing clarifications to clients, pathologists, case coordinators and section leaders.
